Medic using tribunal’s interim relief clause fails to be reinstated

A leading Midlands medic’s plea to be reinstated at her job pending the outcome of her unfair dismissal tribunal, has been refused.

Doctor Poornima Prabhu, who specialises in family planning, contraception and sexual health in the Redditch and Bromsgrove areas, applied at Birmingham Employment Tribunal to be reinstated at her job under the little-used “interim relief” clause.

However, employment tribunal judge John Horne refused her application. Doctor Prabhu’s employment tribunal case came about after she lost her job after making whistle blowing complaints at a tribunal hearing late last year.

She alleged that certain services at the Worcestershire Health & Care NHS Trust were not being run in an appropriate manner as some of the staff did not have the necessary knowledge and expertise.

Doctor Prabhu – who is also an associate specialist and lead clinician – has denied an accusation of making the disclosures due to self interest.

Judge Horne said that Dr Prabhu had “failed to persuade him to make a decision in her favour” the Redditch & Alcester Advertiser reported, and therefore her interim relief application had failed.

He also went on to say that he was not convinced that the alleged disclosures had been made in good faith by Dr Prabhu.
